Perfect Christmas Turkey on the Big Green Egg

Celebrate Christmas the Australian way by firing up the BBQ and cooking a Big Green Egg Roasted Turkey! This recipe ensures a beautifully roasted turkey with a crispy golden skin and juicy, flavourful meat—perfect for your festive feast.

 

Big Green Egg Roasted Turkey

 

Ingredients

1 whole turkey (cleaned thoroughly)

Savory Pecan Seasoning (or your preferred poultry seasoning)

1 whole onion (halved)

1 stalk celery

2 cups chicken broth, wine, or water

Instructions

1. Prepare the Big Green Egg

Set up the Big Green Egg for indirect cooking with the convEGGtor at 325°F (163°C).

Add a handful of pecan wood chips for a light smoky flavour and deep brown colour.

2. Season & Prep the Turkey

Generously coat the outside of the turkey with Savoury Pecan Seasoning.

Place the turkey onto a Vertical Poultry Roaster or Rib & Roasting Rack.

Set the turkey in a drip pan, adding onion and celery to the pan.

Pour chicken broth, wine, or water into the drip pan for added moisture and flavour.

3. Roast the Turkey

Place the turkey inside the Big Green Egg and close the lid.

Cook for approximately 10 minutes per pound.

The turkey is ready when it reaches a safe internal temperature of 165°F (74°C).

4. Make the Gravy

Reserve the flavourful drippings from the drip pan.

Use them to prepare a rich, smoky gravy for your Christmas feast.
